La llingua asturiana en Salamanca

Nel territoriu de la provincia de Salamanca entovía se fala la llingua asturiana. Les zones que meyor conserven la llingua asturiana son Les Arribes del Dueru y la Sierra de Gata, esto ye la mitá occidental y la fastera meridional de la provincia salmantina. Nestes fasteres predomina l’asturlleonés frente al castellanu y pesie a la emigración que soportaron estes zones entovía queden alrodiu de los 3000 falantes autóctonos de la llingua asturiana. Nel restu la provincia fálase un castellanu chiscáu d’abondu vocabulariu asturianu, anque eso sí, en constante regresión y minorización por mor de la imposición del castellanu que dende vieyo implantóse como llingua oficial y de cultura nun territoriu que dende la Edá Mediana usaba dafecho’l romance asturlleonés como prueben los documentos medievales, ente ellos el mesmu Fueru de Salamanca, escritu nel romance asturlleonés o asturianu que ye autóctonu y propiu d’esta tierra.



Dende hai poco, el nuevu Estatutu d´Autonomía de Castiella y Lleón reconoz nel so artículu 5 per primer vez al asturlleonés como un bien d´especial protección que sedrá oxetu de protección específica por parte de les isntituciones pol so particular valos dientro del patrimoniu llingüísticu de la Comunidá. La protección del asturlleonés, l´usu y promoción del mesmu sedrán oxetu de regulación. Esto ye l´asturianu en Salamanca algama con ello el mesmu estatus llegal que´l que tien agora l´asturianu n´Asturies, un estatus de promoción pero non de validez xurídica oficial, lo que nun concede derechos individuales a los falantes o usuarios.



Los rasgos principales de la llingua asturiana en Salamanca són los comunes a los del restu del dominiu y definitorios de la llingua asturiana como la efe llatina (farrapu, farina, fierru, foscu) y la palatalización (llumes, llaris, llamuerca, ñalga, ñuca, ñisca). Un elementu típicu del asturianu d´esta fastera ye l´aspiración n´exemplos como h.elechu, h.incar, banduh.u, h.era cuando l´estándar asturianu escritu ye felechu, fincar, banduyu o xera, elementu ésti asemeyáu a la pronunciación del asturianu más oriental. Una preba de la influencia asturiana na fala de salamanca son los plurales femeninos en –es qu’hasta hai bien poco se sentíen pela sierra de Gata: patates, vaques, coses, gallines..., exemplu d’ello son los topónimos como’l mesmu de Les Arribes, un plural femenín qu’entovía se conserva.



La llingua asturiana en Salamanca usa un pergrande vocabulariu que ye común y propiu de la llingua en tol dominiu anque ye verdá que la palatalización ta en regresión: lombu, lamber, amollecer, guañar, calecer, anidiar, cañariegu, pelín, cachín, güelu, escangallar, espurrise, garulla, mandil, nial, pega, pingar, repachingase, retrucar, risión o cogüelmu son toes palabres asturianes pero que tamién son propies y autóctones de les tierres charres de Salamanca y asina hasta un perllargu palabreru y elementos llingúísticos estudiaos yá dende 1903, añu nel que Fernando de Gata y Galache publicara´l so “Vocabulario charruno” y en 1909 Beriano publicara´l “Vocabulario de Sierra de Gata”.



La vitalidá del vocabulariu asturianu nesta parte del dominiu llingüísticu ye un bon exemplu de la permanencia, vitalidá, frescor y puxu qu’inda tien la llingua asturiana nestes tierres. Ye de notar que nes tierres salmantines esiste tamién un palabreru propiu o “charru” con acepciones peculiares lo mesmo que pasa n’abondes zones del dominiu llingüísticu asturlleonés. Cada vez más se publiquen amañosos vocabularios ya interesantes estudios y monografíes de los estremaos pueblos y zones falantes lo qu’enriquez enforma’l patrimoniu llingüísticu del nuesu idioma astur.



Anguañu, la situación social de la llingua asturiana nes tierres salmantines ye de diglosia, úsase la llingua en situaciones familiares, privaes o coloquiales, incluso la mayoría la xente nun ye del too consciente que fala una llingua estremada sinón que dellos camienten la so llingua propia ye un mal falar castellanu. Poco a poco, gracies al trabayu de dellos colectivos de defensa de la llingua, los falantes entamen a conocer que’l so xeitu de falar ye correcto porque nun ye castellanu mal usáu sinón asturianu o asturlleonés pervieyu y usáu a xeitu. Los que meyor conserven la llingua son les persones de más de 70 años, los de mediana edá conserven abondu vocabulariu y xiros verbales, los que menos conocen la llingua son los más mozos yá que naide s’encargó d’enseñá-yoslo na escuela nin tampoco nos medios de comunicación s’usa l’asturianu de Salamanca. Sicasí, los estudios sobre la llingua asturiana nesta provincia tienen cada vez mayor difusión en prensa y revistes, asina como en publicaciones especializaes en llingüística feches pola Universidá o por otres instituciones. Los defensores del asturlleonés reclamen la oficialidá de la llingua nel so territoriu, el so usu públicu y visible por parte de les instituciones y la implantación del so enseñu de forma optativa en toles escueles de la provincia salmantina pa que tou esti patrimoniu llingüísticu nun se pierda y les nueves xeneraciones puedan seguir conociéndolu y usándolu.

Within the province of Salamanca asturian language is still spoken. Those areas that keep asturian language heritage best are Les Arribes del Dueru y la Sierra de Gata which are the western half and southern salamanca. On this areas asturian-leonese is more prevalent than castillian spanish and despite recent inmigration to the are there are still 3000 astur-leonese native speakers. The rest of the province speaks spanish with plenty of asturian vocabulary into it , asturleonese in the area is endangered and basicalley in retreat as a result of castillian spanish being the only official language. This area however it has traditionally spoken astur-leonese as it is evidence by documents from the middle ages , among them the salamanca municipal charter written in the local asturleonese.

Recently the new Castilla y Leon Autonomy charter has given some legal recognition to astur-leonese as part of the cultural heritage of this autonomous community. According to this charter the asturleonese will be object of public policies of protection by the regional government. Active policies with the aim of promoting the language will be undertaken by different government agencies. This means astur-leonese is salamance has achieved a legal status similar to that of asturian in the asturias , the language will be promoted but it is not official hence not denying astur-leonse speakers the right to use the language at all levels.

The main characteristics of astur-leonse in salamanca are shared with the rest of areas where astur-leonse is spoken , things such as the keeping of the initial f and llatina (farrapu, farina, fierru, foscu) and the palatalization (llumes, llaris, llamuerca, ñalga, ñuca, ñisca). A linguistic element particular of this area is the "aspiration" we can see than in examples such as h.elechu, h.incar, banduh.u, h.era , in standard asturian this is written felechu, fincar, banduyu o xera this brings salamanca asturleonese closer to eastern asturian. Other evidences of the asturian influence include the femenin plural ending –es which untill recently was still used in the sierra de Gata patates, vaques, coses, gallines , as evidenca of it we can find some place names such as Les arribes .

Astur-leonese in Salamanca used plenty of vocabulary common to the whole asturian-speaking area , although palatalization is dying out , lombu, lamber, amollecer, guañar, calecer, anidiar, cañariegu, pelín, cachín, güelu, escangallar, espurrise, garulla, mandil, nial, pega, pingar, repachingase, retrucar, risión o cogüelmu are all asturian words but they are also native to the salamanca charro country. As early as 1903 Fernando de Gata y Galache published the “Vocabulario charruno” and in 1909 beriano published the “Vocabulario de Sierra de Gata” both compilation of local vocabulary.

The permanence of asturian words within this area are evidence of the vitality of asturian language within salamanca. It must be noted that many words or meaning to workds are particular to the local salamanca area. Dictionaries are more readuily available , this does certainly enrich not only the local heritage but that of the whole asturian speaking area.

Nowadays the current situation of asturian in salamanca can be described as diglossic , asturian is only used within familiar , private or colloquial situations most people are not even aware of being speaking a different language ,, they jsut think they "speak bad spanish". Slowly the situation is changing thanks to the work of some asturian language protection groups , making asturleonese speakers aware that their langauge is a right way of speaking it simply is a different language to spanish , it is asturleonese. The people that are more likely to speak a purer form of asturleonse are over 70 years of age , middle age people would use plenty of asturian words and use some asturian tenses , younger people tend to know asturleonse the least since it is not taught is schools or used in the media. In spite of this problems research on asturian language is getting more coverage on the media as well as getting a higher profile within the academia. Supporter of asturianu in salamanca would like to see this language becoming co-official in the province and would like to see local government using it as well as a more comprehensive presence within the state education system , including the opportunity for all salamancans to learn it within the state school system always on a voluntary basis.
