Hi Peter,

I looked into buying property in Asturias a few years ago, and strongly recommend speaking with an attorney in Asturias to be sure that you have a free and clear title and that your rights are protected. I would make the same recommendation if you were interested in buying a property in New England (where I live), but when making a property investment in a country that is new to you, I thihk it is especially important to have good legal advice.

maybe one day i will --> 'grow-up'.

Tierradenaide--I spoke about your plans to a friend last night who's thinking of buying a 'prau' (field or plot of land) in La Villa (County Villaviciosa). The first step, before buying, is to go to the Casa Conceyu (Ayuntamiento, in Spanish) and ask what status the 'prau' has, whether you can build on it, whether it is classified as agricultural, etc.

Once you decide on the plot and the price is right, always make sure you know the land status. Otherwise, you may be stuck with a field that is only good for grazing your livestock, but no good for putting up an horru (Asturian granary) or building a house. With all your carpentry savvy, your best option is to find a small farmstead that you can restore on your own.

-----------------------

I've heard that they are strict and the permitting process is slow. But that can be good, too.
