Join us at the 2010 Potomac Celtic Festival, June 12-13

Alfonso Diaz has made arrangements for an Asturian tent at the 2010 Potomac Celtic Festival in Leesburg, VA, west of Washington, DC.

Steve McClelland, Alfonso and I will be there and are hoping that others will also be able to attend and help out at the Asturian tent.

The dates are June 12-13, 2010. The hours of the festival are 10-7 on Saturday and 10-5:30 on Sunday. I think that we'll be arriving at about 8:30 am on Saturday to set up, but check with me to be sure.

It'll be held at the same place as last year, Morven Park International Equestrian Center, 41793 Tutt Lane, Leesburg, VA 20176. There's more info here:

The Asturians, Bretons, and Welsh add diversity to what is predominantly Scottish (and less so Irish) festival. We've won awards for our display and the crowds enjoy hearing about Asturias.

There are several stages featuring excellent live music, story tellers, dance performances. If you've got kids, you'll enjoy the special activities for children. The Highland athletic competitions are a treat, too. In addition, there are many tents with exhibits by the various Scottish clans and other societies (like the Asturians). There are also very interesting living history displays, as well as craft and food vendors. We have always had a very good time.

Some people looked at the maps on our stand one year and asked if Asturias was an island (!) since it seemed to be cut off from Spain. Very funny.

Here's a picture of us back in 2007 setting up the stand next to the Bretons. Art is right--there's a strong bias toward the Scots in Potomac. So here's a roll call for all Asturians and Galicians in the DC area to help out. Take your kids!
