Celia Marie Garcia San Julian

CLARKSBURG — Celia Marie Garcia San Julian (Saya), age 89, passed away quietly on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 5:50 a.m. in Tucson, Ariz. in the home of her daughter. She had congestive heart failure.

She was born to Spanish immigrant parents on Nov., 22, 1921 in Clarksburg; She grew up with three sisters and two brothers in Despard.

She married Raymond San Julian; they made their home in North View, and successfully raised two children, David and Connie.

Celia is preceded in death by her husband Raymond, son David and brother William Garcia.

Celia was an intelligent, self-made woman. She attended Business College, worked in several office situations, secured a position with the local VA hospital as a ward clerk and worked her way up to a ward clerk supervisor. She excelled as a supervisor and won many awards and acknowledgments from her superiors for her outstanding service to our veterans and her co-workers. She retired from the VA after 24 years of service.

Celia loved to travel. Her favorite destination was Asturias, Spain, in the small town of Riosa where she and Raymond’s extended family lived. She found many relatives there and continued to keep in touch with them.

Celia was very interested in providing service to her community.

She was one of the founding members of the local Spanish club; she was a member of the Clarksburg Woman’s Club and an active member of the St. James Catholic Church.

She was very proud that she volunteered as a literacy tutor and continued to do so, when she moved to Arizona.

Celia was an amazing woman, who had many talents, interests and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, son and daughter -in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived a rich, rewarding life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg, on Wednesday, Dec. 8th from 5:30 -8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 2107 Pride Ave, Clarksburg, WV, on Thursday, December, 9th at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell.
