Luis, I just saw your documentary film on Corsino/Cole at the Xixon film festival (http://www.gijonfilmfestival.com/) and wanted to tell you it was quite touching.

For those who haven´t seen it, it´s the story of a boy from County Ayer/Aller who is 7 when his father puts him on a bus to the closest seaport shortly before Asturias surrendered to Franco´s Fascist troops in 1938. Corsino/Cole ends up in a refugee camp in Bordeaux, then Paris, then Lyons and then Marseille--before arriving in the US by way of Morocco. Quite a stunt for a seven-year-old. Cole now lives in Ft. Worth, Texas and is an interesting Asturian-American hybrid.

The story builds up almost like a thriller, but the suspense is emotional. At one point, Luis (the director) asks him where his heart is and he says in the mountains of Ayer/Aller, but back in Ft. Worth he says it´s in Texas, both of which are true.

At the end, there´s an odd lingering sense that the psychological pain is immeasurable. After all, Corsino/Cole lost his parents and when he returns as an older man not even his brother believes his story. One wonders if he is truly at peace.

Luis, acabo de ver tu documental en el Festival de Cine de Gijón (http://www.gijonfilmfestival.com/) y quería decirte que ha sido conmovedor.

Para aquellos que no lo hayan visto: cuenta la historia de un niño del concejo de Ayer/ Aller que tiene 7 años cuando su padre le monta en un autobús con destino al puerto marítimo más cercano, poco antes de que Asturias se rindiera a la tropas fascistas de Franco en 1938. Corsino/ Cole acaba en un campo de refugiados en Burdeos, después va a París, más tarde a Lyon y Marsella, antes de llegar a los EE.UU. vía Marruecos. Toda una proeza para un pequeño de 7 años. En la actualidad, Cole vive en Ft. Worth (Tejas) y es un interesante híbrido astur-americano.

La historia se desarrolla casi como un thriller, pero el suspense es emocional. En un momento dado, Luis (el diretor) le pregunta dónde está su corazón, a lo que él responde que en las montañas de Ayer/ Aller, pero de vuelta en Ft. Worth dice que está en Tejas. Ambas respuestas son verdaderas.

Al final, se tiene la persistente sensación de que el sufrimiento psicológico es inmensurable. Después de todo, Corsino/ Cole perdió a su padres y cuando volvió como un hombre adulto, ni siquiera su hermano cree su historia. Uno se pregunta si realmente está en paz.
