While I am no expert on anatomical terms either in English or Spanish, my best guess from the context is that it refers to bundles of something (probably muscle or fiber). "Haz" is a bundle or sheaf, as in a bundle of sticks. A phone call to one of my colleagues in the Spanish department confirms that it is some kind of bundle.
My guess is that it is derived from the Latin fascis (plural fasces), a bundle of sticks bound together. |
