translated by Bob

The most beautiful word, for what it means, is "arruciar." [to drizzle, to fall like dew, to sprinkle - all with implications of tiny drops]

Salud

Bob,

Plase correct me if I'm wrong, because my English was quite good long time ago, but it is quite low right now. I think the meaning for Arruciar proposed by Descabalau is different from what is said in the translation. “Tar arruciau or arruciar” is the superlative degree of enjoyment, of satisfaction, something you have greatly, immensely enjoyed”.

Perrenaca,

You are undoubtedly correct. Asturianu is a learned language for me and I am still learning. I was not very familiar with the word and depended on my dictionaries.

If I understand you right, "arruciar" can also refer to a superlative degree of enjoyment. That certainly makes sense in light of Desacabaláu's mention of the meaning of the word. Thanks for your comment.

Perrenaca:

Hi, :D
One of the words that sounds nicely to me is "PARPAYUELA"....the combination of letters seems to me "musical"...

 Parpayuela means: a talk persistent and meaningless; a prolonged, sometimes senseless talk

Dalla defines "xeitu" as

|| Facer xeitu, poner arremangu.

My reading of this (and I still have much to learn, so corrections are most welcome) suggests that the semantic range in English includes the ability to do something or put something in order, but with a strong implication of doing it well, even gracefully; and ability to think and reason well; proper behavior, etc.

Of course, Art

But I must admit that for me is very difficult to translate from Asturian to Spanish or to English. There are some words or expressions that I only hear in asturian and I only use when I speak or write in asturian.
Any help will be well-received.

According to the dictionary of the Academy of Asturian Language:

Xeitu

1. Way of doing things, of moving, to behave.

Ye un artista, tien xeitu pa too./ He's a genious, he is good doing all kind of things

2 Sort things on a site

I don't know an example with this meaning, it's the first time that I hear it. Someone can help me?

3 Appearance

Esa moza ta de buen xeitu/ Esa moza tien xeitu
That woman is atractive

4 Skill, ability to do something

Nun tengo xeitu pa los númberos/ I'm not good with mathematics

5 Ability to think

Tien xeitu abondo pa decidise él solu/ He has enough ability to think to take a decition for himself

6 Site appropriate to do something

I don't know an example with this meaning, it's the first time that I hear it. Someone can help me?

Otra pallabra que me presta abondo ye: ACHUCAR

ACHUCAR: verbu. Poner [a gustu, nuna postura cómoda a daqué o a daquién echándolu na cama, metiéndolu contra ún]. 2 Poner o ponese a dormir. 3 familiar. Morrer.

Por dos razones:

--------------------------------

Another word that I like is: ACHUCAR

ACHUCAR: verb. 1. To be at ease, put something or someone in a comfortable position in bed, tight against him. 2 Lie down to sleep. 3 In a familiar way: Die.

For two reasons:

1. Because it's a word that my wife taught me, explain it in practice

2. It says a lot about the asturian way of seeing the life: The death is not something so horrible, it's simply a sleep for all eternity, and for that it's better to be at ease :D

That's a good one ("achucar"), Llames. I'll have to teach that one to my wife. I think she'll like it.

Gee, who would have thought that the forum would be a place to learn such things! What a xeitu! (That may not be the right way to use "xeitu", but it's close!)

-----------------------
