Here we are again nearing the time of the Potomac Celtic Festival! We'd love to see new folks drop by the Asturian Tent at this celebration in Leesburg Virginia.

The festival takes place all day on Saturday the 14th of June. Several of us will be there dressed in the typical costumes. I know that we'll have several men but suspect that we might not have any women in costume. If there is a woman who has a costume, let's hope she gets interested and comes!

There will be music and plenty of bottles of Asturian cider!

For more information, check out the festival's website which has full details:
www.potomaccelticfest.org

Best regards!

I'll be there, supposedly in costume! I'm looking forward to trying that out! I believe Elí will also be there with Fonsu and I.

Whether you drop by for a few minutes or hang out with us all day, we'd love to see you!

---------------------

A ver.

Asturias Celtic Society Wins Again at the Potomac Festival!

Post by Art »

There were two highlights to our participation in the Potomac Festival this year. First, our crew included, Alfonso Diaz, his son Santiago, Steve McClelland, myself (Art)... and Elí Del Solar! Just a year ago we were worrying about whether Elí would be able to walk again. This year he was able to walk briskly across the site with the aid of walking sticks. It was a delight to have Elí back with us and looking good.

Second, this year we had a donation of two more Asturian costumes, so three of us were dressed in traditional garb. We're still working completing the costumes (Running shoes don't quite fit!), but we must have looked fine anyway because we won the award for best Clan (family or regional group) at the festival.

We all agree with Fonsu when he suggested that we dedicate this year's success to Elí's recovery. Puxa Elí! Puxa Asturies!

We had to close up our display early because of a strong thunderstorm which even blew over some of the clan tents, but it was just another piece of the adventure.

If you're in the area next year, do join us! It's fun telling visitors about Asturias and we always have a great time visiting together.

----------------------------

The Clans and Societies Committee, on Behalf of the Potomac Celtic Alliance, is Pleased to recognize the Convener of this Society Tent for an outstanding effort in representing their Society's Celtic heritage in a positive manner through unique and informative displays, in-depth historical knowledge and public interaction.
As such the committee declares this Society's tent as:

THE BEST SOCIETY TENT FOR 2008

this award is conveyed on June 14th, 2008 in conjunction with

THE 2008 POTOMAC CELTIC FESTIVAL

Saludos

Part II about the Potomac Festival

I would also like to thank some key people for their role in our success:
  • Yolanda Gutierrez for creating a fantastic lunch. She saved us from hunger or commercial food that would have been greasy.
  • Patty, a friend of Fonsu, who helped dismantle our display.
  • Santiago Diaz, of whom we are very proud for his participation, handsomely costumed, and for his interesting contributions to our conversation.
  • Elí Del Solar and Steve McClelland for their help in holding the tent down during the storm, in taking down the tent when we were done, and in talking to the public about Asturias. They were not visitors, but integral participants in the group, the Asturies Celtic Society.
  • The gaitero who provided us with some Asturian outfits. What a marvelous gift!
  • Alfonso Diaz for his tireless promotion of Asturian culture. He is the founder and dominant force within the organization, the Asturies Celtic Society. Without his planning, we would not have nearly as much success.
By the way, we hope to meet in a location somewhere between Baltimore, Washington, Morgantown, and Luray for lunch and talk about how to promote Asturian culture. Let us know if you want to participate!
