Want your message to be read? ¿Quieres que leen tu mensaje?

Post by Art »

It's hard enough to read a post in a foreign language without having to figure out non-standard English or Castilian.

Some of our members have very basic abilities in their non-native languages. Non-standard usage, such as hip spellings, make these messages unreadable for them.

Also, many of our readers use machine translation programs to help understand messages. Even the best can't translate non-standard usages.

That's why we encourage writers to use:
  • dictionary-quality English, Castilian, or Asturian
  • standard capitalization (not all in capital letters and not all in lower case letters)
  • accents (é, í, ñ , etc.) when appropriate
  • fairly simple sentence structure (In particular, avoid run-on sentences that go on for many lines. Thanks to Bob for reminding me of that one.)
  • a capital letter for the first word of a sentence and a period at the end
  • line spaces between paragraphs (Indentation won't display. See this message for details: http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtop ... 1529#11529)
Be kind to your readers! All of this will help us help you!

--------------------

Hola, Roberto:

http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1995
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280

Hello, Roberto,

Thanks for understanding. Since it's not hard to correct messages, it's not fatal.

There are two threads that deal with accents:
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1995
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280
(I think the first is more helpful.)

This is a problem for many people, but the solution is simple, and kind of fun!

A trip to Gijón? That sounds great!

Hello, Marigelys,

I suspect that you don't realize that I'm an American and live in the US. I use the same keyboard you do. (I doubt it was my marvelous Castilian that made you think otherwise! Ha.)

It really is easy. Be sure to read that thread:

There are several ways to do it.

Hola, Marigelys:

Ja.)

Es realmente fácil. Asegúrete de leer ese hilo:

Hay varias maneras de hacerlo.
