Nos complace anunciar que ¡HEMOS SALVADO LA NACIONAL!

MUCHAS GRACIAS. El equipo de Save La Nacional quiere expresar su más sincero agradecimiento por el interés y el apoyo recibido en la causa de La Nacional, Sociedad Benéfica Española. Con su ayuda y entusiasmo hemos conseguido llevar a cabo nuestra misión para, no sólo salvar la sociedad, sino también para revitalizarla como institución cultural. Por medio de un acuerdo mutuo, La Nacional ha logrado preservar su autonomía al tiempo que se ha asociado con El Circulo Español, otra sociedad española con sede en Queens. Estas dos instituciones se han unificado bajo una única denominación: Centro Español de Nueva York.

Gracias a las contribuciones de ustedes, el futuro de esta sociedad con más de 140 años de vida está asegurado. A partir de ahora, concentraremos nuestros esfuerzos en la creación de un centro activo para la comunidad que sirva tanto como lugar de ubicación de un instituto culinario español, como espacio para la exhibición de arte, poesía, cine, clases y actividades de todo tipo.

Con el objetivo de facilitar esta transición, Savelanacional.org será conocida en el futuro como AMIGOS LA NACIONAL, cuya misión será promover la incorporación de nuevos socios y el desarrollo de actividades culturales en el 'nuevo' Centro Español de Nueva York. En este sentido, y como resultado de un acuerdo, Centro Español ofrece la membresía automáticamente a todos los españoles, provenientes de España, o familiares directos, si se solicita antes del 25 de febrero del 2009. Aquellos que detentan una nacionalidad diferente a la española también tienen la oportunidad de ser socios, aunque su solicitud seguirá el procedimiento convencional, que implica su estudio y aprobación por parte de un comité.

La cuota de SOCIO es solamente 100 dólares al año e incluye una serie de beneficios, entre ellos un importante descuento en 'La Nacional Tapas Bar and Restaurant' y un "día de socios" a la semana, en el que se ofrecerán tapas gratis con la bebida, que también contará con un precio reducido. Asimismo, se harán notables descuentos en las clases de baile, cata de vinos y gastronómicas, así como en los eventos celebrados tanto en el edificio de La Nacional, en Manhattan, como en el del Circulo Español, en Astoria.

Los MIEMBROS de la sociedad podrán acceder a una red social y de trabajo con otros españoles y utilizar el salón principal de La Nacional como lugar de reunión con amigos o colegas. Adicionalmente, los socios serán invitados a los eventos sociales y culturales exclusivos que se celebran durante el año coincidiendo con las fiestas tradicionales españolas. Y, quizás lo más importante, es que como miembro de nuestra comunidad, usted será parte activa en el proceso de recuperación y conservación de esta histórica y especial institución de Nueva York. Su aportación será vital. Si está interesado en solicitar la incorporación a la sociedad, haga el favor de revisar las indicaciones que aparecen más abajo.

Por otro lado, para CELEBRAR este logro, encontrarnos y saludar a los nuevos miembros, se celebrará una FIESTA el próximo sábado 7 de febrero con tapas y sangría. La entrada costará 20 dólares al público general y será gratis para aquellos que soliciten la membresía al llegar a la fiesta. Los nuevos socios podrán participar en las elecciones del nuevo comité directivo del Centro Español de Nueva York, un importante privilegio.

PROCEDIMIENTO para convertirse en socio del Centro Español de Nueva York

1. Baje y rellene la solicitud adjuntada en este correo electrónico.
2. Incluya una fotocopia de su Pasaporte o DNI como identificación oficial.
3. Incluya dos fotografías de tamaño pasaporte (Para el carné de socio; estaremos tomando fotos en la fiesta del 7 de febrero).
4. Incluya un 'Money Order' o cheque de 100 dólares dirigido a "Spanish Benevolent Society, Inc.".
5. Si es esposo/a o hijo de un español, incluya una fotocopia de un documento que demuestre este parentesco (por ejemplo certificado de matrimonio, de nacimiento, libro de familia, etc.).

We are delighted to announce that we have SAVED LA NACIONALl!

THANK YOU. The Save La Nacional Team would like to heartily thank you for your support and interest in La Nacional, the Spanish Benevolent Society. With your help and enthusiasm we have been able to complete our mission to not just save the society but to reinvigorate La Nacional as a cultural institution. In mutual agreement, La Nacional has successfully preserved its autonomy while also gaining a partnership with Círculo Español, another Spanish society based in Queens. Together, these two institutions will be known as Centro Español de Nueva York. Thanks to your contributions, the future of our 140 year-old Society is secure and we will refocus our efforts to create an active community center that will serve as a venue for a Spanish culinary institute, art exhibitions, poetry readings, film screenings, classes of all types and many other activities.

In order to facilitate this transformation, Savelanacional.org will in the future be known as AMIGOS LA NACIONAL whose mission it will be to promote active membership and cultural activities in the Society. We are pleased to announce that as a result of our agreement, the Society is offering automatic membership to all Spaniards, persons of Spanish origin, and immediate relatives, until February 25th, 2009. Customarily, the application for membership is a more involved process contingent upon board approval, and all non-Spaniards also have the opportunity to apply for membership through this more traditional process.

MEMBERSHIP is only $100 for the entire year and offers a variety of real benefits such as deeply discounted prices at the acclaimed La Nacional Tapas Bar and Restaurant, a "Members Day" of the week when free tapas will be served with every discounted drink as well as discounts in all dance, wine and gastronomy classes and events offered at La Nacional and Círculo Español in Astoria. Members will also be able to network with others from the Spanish community and utilize La Nacional's great salon room as a meeting place for friends and colleagues. Additionally, members will be invited to exclusive member-only social and cultural events during the many Spanish holidays throughout the year. Perhaps most importantly, as a participant in our community, you will be an integral part of the burgeoning process to renew and recapture the rich past of this truly special New York institution. Your input will be vital.

In CELEBRATION of this achievement and to meet and greet our new members on Saturday February 7th, 2009 there will be a Meet and Greet and Membership Drive with tapas and sangria. This event will be $20.00 for the general public and free for individuals who apply for membership. In addition, all new members will be able to participate in the elections for the new board of the Centro Español de Nueva York, an important privilege.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES to become a member of Centro Español de Nueva York

1. Download and fill out the attached application

2. Include a photocopy of your passport or ID as official identification.

3. Include two passport-sized photographs (for the membership ID, we will be taking photos at the February 7th event)

4. Include a $100.00 money order or check made out to Spanish Benevolent Society, Inc.

5. If you are a spouse or child of a Spaniard, include a photocopy of proof of the relationship (ie. Marriage certificate, birth certificate, libro de familia, etc.)

6. If you are not affiliated with a Spaniard, please write a short paragraph about why you are interested in becoming a member.

7. Bring the completed application to La Nacional Tapas Bar and Restaurant to be processed by two members of the directorate every Friday afternoon.
