Hi,
This is another "poem" for kids:
PICU MICU ZARRAMICU
Picu micu, zarramicu
¿quién te dio tan grande el picu?
Diómelo Dios por mi trabayo,
por picar n’aquel carbayo.
Yo piqué y repiqué,
Y un grano para mí saqué.
Al molín lo llevé,
El molín, moler, moler.
El ratón, royer, royer.
Por el rabu lo pesqué.
Al mercau lo llevé.
Sacóme 100 ducados
y un doblón,
una burra paridiega
y un pollín tresquilón.

POSSIBLE TRANSLATION
Beak, puny, sleepy eyes
Who gave you so big beak?
God, for my work,
For bitting that oak,
I bit and re-bit
And a grain I got for me
I brought it to the mill
The mill, grinding, grinding
The mouse, gnawing, gnawing
By the tail, it was caught
To the market, I took it
100 ducats
and one doblón for it I got,
a foaling donkey
and a furry donkey.
Note: a "doblón" is an old spanish coin.

Doblón has come into English as dubloon, usually in the iontext of pirate booty. "Gold dubloons and pieces of eight." The pieces of eight were coins that were chopped into eight parts to make change. |

Picu Micu Zarramico
donde vas
tan bonito
a la sierra verdadera
pin, pon, fuera!

Pito, pito, gorgorito
dónde vas tú tan bonito,
a la era, a la era,
a la era verdadera,
pim. pam, pum, fuera.
(Siendo la era un campo de labor) |
