Celiac Disease in Asturians?

Post by Ronzalez »

There is something called Celiac Disease, and it revolves around a hypersensitivity to wheat, white flour products, and an ingredient in these grains called gluten. Apparently the disorder has a very high incidence in the peoples of extreme western Europe, particularly in the more mountainous areas of the Pyrenees, such as Asturias, and their descendents who still carry the gene for the disorder. It interferes with calcium absorption and proper bowel function, and can be a leading cause of diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Here is a link to a YouTube video on Celiac Disease and gluten sensitivity:

and here is a link to a great book I found on the subject:

Here's a link to the Online Medelian Inheritance in Man website, run by professional geneticists. Just put your search term into the search engine there and you will find more information that you thought couol exist, all updated often. Ypu tax dollars at work.

Also, I'm a geneticist and evolutionary biologist,k so feel free to write me privately with any questions you may have (you have to make a certain number of posts first).
