Pamestu-simpleton-dimwit-pánfilo

Post by Marta Elena Díaz García »

Pamestu (mascul.) or pamesta (fem) is an adjetive commonly used to refer to a person that is dim-witted, blockhead. 8)

Related with pamestu is “pamestada” that is used for a silly remark or a silly thing.
Also, pamesta (in the feminine) is used for a big round loaf of bread. For extension, pamesta is also used for a person with a round and wide face.

Pamesta de munchos, coménla los llobus: this saying means that a thing that belongs to all, that is a common good , is not looked after with the same care as the own.

I wonder if the original meaning was the loaf of bread?

Is that a generic term for a round loaf?

-----------------------

Me pregunto si el sentido original era del pan?

¿Eso es un término genérico para un pan redondo?

Origin

Hi, Art:

Yes, I believe that the origin of the term was that of the round loaf.

I am not sure, but in my knowledge pamesta is used for a round loaf of wheat bread, a big one. We don`t say "pamesta of corn" but "boroña".

Probably Is knows more about this.

Marta.
