José Andres & Food & Wine in Asturias

Post by Mary Lev »

Hello, I am Mary Lev -- was referred to your site by my father, Paul Dickinson. He and I have been actively conducting genealogy research on my grandparents for many years -- they were Nicolas Perez and Avelina Alonso Perez, originally from Asturias (they are referenced elsewhere in this forum).

Wanted to tell you about the May 2004 issue of Food & Wine magazine. It contains two items relevant to Asturias. The first is a lengthy article on Jose Andres, a native Asturian who is/has been chef at three excellent restaurants in Washington, DC (I've eaten at two of them!). The article, which includes recipes, follows Andres on a road trip to some of his favorite spots in Asturias.

The second item is a small blurb about a web site (www.rusticae.es) that rates some of the smaller, fine hotels and inns in rural Spain, Portugal, France and Argentina. You can navigate the site in Spanish, English or French, and there are about 8-10 listings for accommodations in Asturias.

The items mentioned above can be seen in print in Food & Wine magazine, or on their web site (no charge) at www.foodandwine.com.

Enjoy!

As Mary Lev writes, Food and Wine magazine's May 2004 edition has an article about Asturian chef, José Andrés, originally from Mieres.

The author, Gisela Williams, combines information about Andrés' Washington, DC restaurants with an entertaining story about a whirlwind tour of Asturias with Andrés. Along the way, she writes about the foods and restaurants of Asturias.
