Greetings!! / ¡Saludos!

Estoy buscando Juan Gregorio Meléndez, nacido en Asturias sobre 1761, murió en Corozal, Puerto Rico, enterrado 21 de julio 1831. Casado con María Gregoria López y tenía al menos 2 hijos: Gregorio Meléndez y López nació alrededor de 1800, y Blas Meléndez y López, nació en Corozal de enero de 1805.

"En 21 de junio de 1831, se dio sepultura dentro de la iglesia parroquial [de Corozal, Puerto Rico], al cadáver del asturiano Juan Meléndez, de 70 años de edad, casado con Gregoria López." Antonio Rodríquez Fraiz, "Historia de Corozal", página 131."

I am searching for Juan Gregorio MELÉNDEZ, born in Asturias about 1761, died in Corozal, Puerto Rico, buried 21 July 1831. Married María Gregoria López and had at least 2 children: Gregorio Meléndez y López born about 1800, and Blas Meléndez y Lopez, born in Corozal, January 1805.

Your ancestors left Asturias long before the registro civil was instituted. Your best bet would be church records, but it would help if you knew the town or parish of birth and approximate dates of your ancestors. Here's the link to the diocese of Asturias to get you started - http://www.iglesiadeasturias.org/ The church records may be able to help, but be aware that many civil and church records were destroyed during the guerra civil. You are more likely to get a reply if you write in Spanish.
