San Agustín, in the heart
The "Coral Avilesina" returns from Florida with the pride of having thrilled Asturian descendants

Avilés

With San Augustine Florida in their hearts, the members of the "Avilés Choral Association" have returned [home], after having offered several concerts in America during the celebration of Pedro Menéndez Day. The Avilesinos gave and were met with warm fondness. They thrilled the descendants of Asturians with their songs in the various localities in which they performed. "It was a very happy trip," summarized Carlos Blanco. The group's president, Nardo Villaboy, agreed. The members of the choir will never forget the "tremendous" reception they received, nor the emotional farewell.

Interpreting the Hymno de Asturias [Anthem of Asturias] in Orlando was something very big for them", Blanco assured. The chorus took advantage of Menéndez's concert, dressed in clothes [representative] of the epoch of the conquistador from Avilés, to interpret the American anthem. "It was big." They were also present at the Asturians' first symposium, which was celebrated in Orlando and in Tampa, although the Chorus could not go to the latter city.

The list of persons who warmly appreciated the group is long, very long. There were, for example, Emiliano Salcines, a judge in Tampa, of parents of Candamo; Dr. Caramés; Bill Lenon, a San Augustíne commissioner; and a lengthy list of others. The 43 avilesinos are grateful for the financial support of their sponsors [partners]: the Chamber of Commerce, Manuel Lloriana, Julián Rus, the Port Authority, Cajastur, Florentino Suárez, Rollins College of Orlando.

They would like to repeat the experience. But next they are preparing a trip to San Nazario.
