Visual art in Asturias

Post by Art »

I would like to add links to the site on the visual arts. I'm looking for good web sites that deal with:

--Asturian artists (living or dead)
--ancient works of art, such as the cave paintings or Celtic carvings,
--the remarkable architecture of Asturias,
--art galleries and museums in Asturias,
--anything else you think might interest our viewers.

I'd also love to hear from people about who in history were the most famous or important Asturian artists. Similarly, who are the best Asturian artists today?

Me gustaría añadir enlaces a este sitio para las artes visuales. Busco los sitios web buenos que tratan de:

- Artistas asturianos (vivos o muertos)

Let me note not a website but a book, though I hesitate to write this since it is out of print and probably very hard to find. I happened to spot it in a used bookstore a year or so ago. It is ARTE PRE-ROMANICO ASTURIANO by Antonio Bonet Correa, Ediciones Poligrafa, Barcelona, 1967, part of the Biblioteca de Arte Hispanico series. You may find it on an out of print website or in a very good art history library at a university. It has lots of pictures of spectacular Asturian Romanesque churches and art, and the text is in Spanish, English, German and French.

Thanks for your post, David. Yes, that really is a great book--coffee table pretty. I have to admit that I've only had time to thumb through it, but I did pick up a copy of it on eBay a while back. My parents were impressed with it enough that they now want to see some of those Pre-Romanesque buildings in our next visit to Asturias.

I've also enjoyed a newer, smaller book titled: Asturias Monumental, which shows one small image of some historical site in Asturias, explains (sometimes too vaguely to be useful) how to get there, and describes the importance of each site. The sites range from prehistoric caves to modern structures. Many are architectural.

Below I've copied the data on it from Cervantes.com:
