Asturian genetic "Familial Hypercholesterolemia"

Post by Terechu »

This article will be of great interest to you folks of Asturian descent, who have high cholesterol levels despite all your dieting efforts. A genetic mutation, which is four times higher among Asturians than among any other population groups is the cause and Asturians are thus considered to be "the founders"). Inbreeding is bad for one's health, this particular mutation is directly responsible for cardio-vascular disease and early death.

I just saw Terechu's note, and have not yet had time to track down the original work, but here is a link to an article that may be of interest (at least as background information) to anglofalantes interested in the issue.
