Automatic Log-In doesn't work if I Log-Out after a visit

Post by Suronda »

Art,

I've been selecting the automatic log-in feature when I visit the Forum. Even though I've checked this box on the log-in page, I'm NEVER logged in automatically when I return.

Do you have any suggestions? Although it's not hard to type in my information, it's frustrating after expecting it to be automatic.

Mil gracias,
S.

Art,

Mil gracias,
S.

This appears to be a very common problem, judging by the number of posts on the software-creators' forum. I've spent several hours working on it without success. I'll try a few more things to see if the problem can be resolved.

Thanks for letting me know about the issue!

Quick answer: Yes, auto login works. But you won't be able to use auto login if you logout. Logging out clears the auto login setting from your cookies.

This answer on this question comes as a surprise to me. I have worked for hours, assuming the whole time that I could figure out how to get auto login to work by rewriting a piece of the code. It appears that the real problem is one of terminology (and my assumptions).

The problem is that logging out is not exactly what it sounds like (at least not to Suronda and me). It's not the "responsible" or "nice" thing to do.

You could think of logging out as your way of telling the forum program that you don't want to be logged in automatically next time. That could be useful if you're changing computers, for example. Imagine that you're getting a new computer and don't want someone else to use your auto login to write messages on the forum--in your name!

Please let me know if there are other problems with auto login.
