----------------------------------------

Never mind, Anuski - it's just Berodia who's an anti-monarchist and has no sense of glamour, there's nothing we can do.
But you'll seem Leonor will be the "Marisol"* of the 21st Century.  Remember you read it here for the first time!

*Marisol was a child star in the 60's who was extremely cute and who still is a national darling - something like Hailey Mills in the UK.

Hi Terechu,

What an absolutely beautiful little girl...

Her parents are very good looking...especially her mother who is a beauty.

Congratulations on the Christening of Leonor...

I see no reason why the king should be any more hesitant at expressing his opinion (whether or not I agree with it) than the rest of us. Actually I find his gesture, although not necessarily his views, refreshing. On the other hand, didn't he play an role in moving Spain toward democracy after Franco's death?

I feel genuine sorrow for the baby, who has been thrust into a lifetime of public scrutiny whether or not she wishes it. That is not a life I would wish on anyone, espeically one so young and innocent.

Political Dissent!

Post by Suronda »

Berodia, I love it. Thanks for giving us a dose of political dissent, Spanish-style. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. Mil gracias!

¿O no fuiste tú?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't you post that picture before? Or wasn't it you? At any rate, making a "fig" in this country has always been a gesture against "evil eye". If it was taken in the Basque Country, however, it wasn't really necessary, because Basques traditionally always backed the monarchy, especially during the 2nd Republic, even though now they act so progressive.

Hmm, I'm going to display my ignorance again!

Is Juan Carlos, "giving the finger" in the sense of an American "F.U."? Or is there a different meaning to "making a fig"? When Terechu says the "fig" can be a gesture against "evil eye", does that mean it's not an insult toward the other person?

----------------

¡Umm, voy a mostrar mi ignorancia otra vez!

"Making a fig" among the Italians (mostly Sicilians) I grew up with meant making a fist with the thumb between the index finger and middle finger.

Hola,

Descarga :

http://www.nodo50.org/unidadcivicaporla ... 0golpe.pdf

Hello,

Juanito was giving the finger, an F. .. you, to a few persons who were booing him, because not all of the Basques are monarchists.

This photo is an extract of a video that was only shown by the Basque television and Internet, obviously!
The scanty press, all of it very courtly, which did comment on the "performance" came up wtih all kinds of explanations, but there is no doubt, it was the "finger".

A Basque publishing house is the only one that dared to publish a "subversive" biography of the personage. This one:

The king blow to blow. Download it here [Art: you really can download the whole book]:

http://www.nodo50.org/unidadcivicaporla ... 0golpe.pdf

A brief review:

"A king blow to blow", written under a pseudonym

A devastating book is published on King Juan Carlos

Pascual Serrano

Spain's foremost informative taboo is approached for the first time with an unprecedented harshness in an unauthorized biography that promises to raise blisters. From the treason [treachery] of his father, to his role in February 23rd [1981, the attempted coup d'état when members of the Guardia Civil stormed into the Spanish Congress of Deputies], the construction of a great personal fortune by means of dubious business dealings, to his sexual scandals and his interference in the independence of the courts.

The book contains about four hundred devastating pages, replete with documentation and information that revises the recent history of Spain and the Royal's involvement in all the dark matters of our country: Mario Conde, GAL, KIO, ....

The work is signed the the pseudonym Patricia Sverlo and edited by Ardi Beltza.

Because the book's distribution in bookshops was seen as "complicated", the telephones to request the book are: 94 661 14 15 and 94 334 44 34.

This book appears in the bibliography of an article in the series, "Cervantes Virtual": http://www.cervantesvirtual.com/histori ... los1.shtml

Best wishes.

P.S. There was a photo of Juanito stark naked published from his days in Italy. Here, obviously, it did not appear. There's a reason why Juanito granted himself irresponsibility and immunity in his constitution. [Art: I may have misinterpreted that last sentence.] Like Gadafi, like Castro.
