Any time that one population shows and increased incidence of some infectious disease, three possible explanation leap to mind. There are (1) genetic differences, (2) environmental differences, and (3) gene-environment interactions. For a brief introduction to genetic resistence or suceptibility to tuberculosis, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/disp ... ?id=607948 . The environment of the Atlantic arc in Spain is different than that of the rest of penisula, cooler and wetter.
