¡¡¡ congratulations !!!

Congratulations!!! Ron, I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Asturias so much, and I'm sorry I was not able to be present at the feast of AA.VV. Santa Maria del Mar. I would have liked that.

Jbarbo: I have been reviewing a couple of lists of students who appear in the book Ron mentioned, and I have not seen the surname Barbo. Are you certain of the spelling?

In AA.VV. De Santa María del Mar, I don't think they have any files on workers from the factory, but they do have an important collection of old photos.

As far as I know, the archives of the RCA continue to be on the premises of the factory. A few university students have been allowed access so they could work on their theses, but little else.

I need a better translation than the that which "Reverso" gives me to understand the message by "jbarbo." Does anyone want to help me? Thanks.

Mafalda, proba http://translate.google.com.

------------

Mafalda, try http://translate.google.com. It's better than Reverso and easier to use.

Which message do you need translated?

I was told that this was my grandmother's home in Naveces. There's not much there now. I did bring a little of her home back to her, one of the last things that I could do for her.

I hope that you went to the registro civil for family documents.
.
Ya esta traducido, gracias.

Ja!

You're right, Mafalda. The change in the order of the elements of the sentence confuses Google. It's a common problem with Google... and with us English-speakers, too.

Having read my cousin Ronnie Gonzalez comments on his visit to Asturias, I would like to add my two cents. I accompanied Ronnie on his visit.
I am a decendent of "Posada" the first curandero in Viono.
I was reminded of my heritage three times on our visit. The first occurred in Oviedo. We went into the Asturian Tourist Office and asked for a road map of Guzon. The attendant, a beautiful young lady asked me what town I was looking for. I said "Viono". She immediately pointed it out. Then I mentioned the "Bar Azul" where cousin Fernando Gonzalez lives. She pointed it out. When she asked for the name of a family I said "Posada". She informed me that she had been taken to "Posada" when she was a young girl to have her shoulder fixed. The second coincidence came when I learned that our host, Luis Fernanded (father of Luis Argea) had taken his younger son Juan to Posada to repair a torn knee ligament. The third surprise was with Ronnie's relative, Charro, who had also been taken to Posada for a muscle problem.

Hey, that photo is a riot!!!

By the way, Bob, if you want to dig deeper into your "Posada" roots, here's an interesting link compiling the history and lineages of county Llanes. The Posada linage is extensively researched under Chapter VI, "Casa de Posada". You will find that you're not only related to ... me  , but to many outstanding families of Asturias.

Art, I was a little overwhelmed at being "Senor Ron's" private cheauffer. The only times we got lost were when I didn't listen to his directions. But we managed to get from Piedras Blancas to Luanco without mishap. The last time I drove in Spain was in a Seat 600 and it took about ten hours to drive from Madrid to Oviedo. Times have changed. The modern highways in Asturias are spectacular.

But I warn all Asturians, cousin Ronnie will be driving there next year.

Turistas!!

Post by jbarbo »

Ron and Bob V.,
Yes you both look like typical "turistas" in the photo... that's part of the adventure in Asturias. There are so many places to see around Castrillon. Cudillero is one of my favorite! I hope that you stopped at Cafe Colon in Aviles for a 'cortao y una copa de anis '. Ron, please share with us more about your trip.
Terechu,
The article on the history of Arnao was very interesting.More answers as to why so many left in the early 1900's. I did not know that there was a Socialist movement then.
Saludos a todos.

Terechu:
