You've got to see this! A Turkish trailer truck stuck between farm houses and hórreos in the village of Bueño, because the driver relied on his GPS device. The poor guy!
Last year a Romanian driver steered his 18-wheeler drove into a ditch near the Collada de Arnicio for the same reason, his GPS showed that the shortest way to the industrial estates of Langreo was over Piloña and Caso counties, but it failed to show the width of the road.
Mirad esto, por Dios! Un camión turco atascado entre casas y hórreos en Bueño, porque el conductor se orientó por el GPS. Pobre hombre!
El año pasado un chófer rumano volcó su trailer cerca de la Collada de Arnicio, porque según el GPS era la ruta más corta para llegar a los polígonos industriales de Langreo. Claro que no indicaba el ancho de la calzada.

Here is a similar story from a small English village near the Welsh border, Wedmore, where tractor trailers are also following satellite navigators like the Tam Tam and getting stuck in odd angles. The article appeas in today's (Dec. 4, 2007) New York Times:

Below is a funny excerpt from the article about a Slovak truck driver who burst into tears after getting stuck in the village. Frankly, I've been on that little country road up and down the Colla d'Arniciu (from Campucasu to Pilona) on my bike. I wouldn't think it funny if I got stuck on one of those curves...
“Foreign drivers very much depend on sat nav systems when they’re coming to a different country, and they are following them rather more blindly than they ought to,” Mr. Dossetter said.
Last month, a Slovakian truck driver arrived in Dover, bound for Wales with 22 tons of paper. But, directed off the highway and onto increasingly narrow roads by his navigation system, he ended up wedged on a tiny lane between two houses in Mereworth, a village in Kent, whereupon he had a panic attack, jumped out of his truck, and burst into tears.
“He got back in his lorry and tried to maneuver his way out, but he was starting to scrape against the front walls,” Mark Siggers, a resident, told a local newspaper. He also knocked down the village’s power cables, cutting off the electricity. It took the authorities several days to remove his mangled truck."

Hablando de la Collá d'Arniciu...¿nun ye guapísima? Hace unos años andábamos nosotros de excursión en Land Rover por los bosques del Coto Reres (ahora Parque de Redes o algo así), paramos en Orlé (Casu), uno de los pueblos más increíbles con una arquitectura rural preciosa y una ubicación de lujo, y luego tiramos para Infiesto por la Collá. La campa estaba tan guapa, que nos tuvimos que bajar, y las chicas echamos a correr por el prau con los brazos extendidos mientras cantábamos a lo Julie Andrews "The hills are alive with the sound of music." Justo en ese momento pasó un coche tuneado con unos chavales dentro que se partían de risa. ¡Qué corte, por Dios!

Speaking of the Collá d'Arniciu...isn't it gorgeous? A few years ago we were driving around the forests of the Coto Reres (now called Parque de Redes or something like that) with some friends in our Land Rover and stopped at Orlé (county Caso), one of the most incredible villages with beautiful rural architecture and a fantastic location, and then we drove on to Infiesto over the Collá. The meadows were so beautiful we just had to get off, and some of us gals started running over the meadow with open arms, singing "The sound of music". Just then a tuned-up car full of teenagers drove by and they just roared with laughter. Boy, were we embarassed! We'll never live that down!
