A new campaign by the Conceyu Abiertu pola Oficialida (Open Forum for Language Rights) has just begun.

Tha campaign Yo doi la cara pla oficialida [I support language rights; literally, 'I show my face for language rights'] consists of a large-scale signature campaign with pictures of people demanding a legal framework for Asturian and Galician-Asturian [Catalan, Basque and Galician are recognized as official languages in Spain, but not Asturian].

You can download the sign at www.doilacara.net , as well as information about the campaign, links and instructions.

You can print out the text, then take a picture of yourself behind the sign, wherever you are, and send it to: doilacara AT gmail DOT com.

Please send the pics with 'doi la cara pola oficialida' from anywhere in the world.

THANKS.

It's interesting that we have similar expressions as "Doi la cara" in English: to face up [to something] or to face [the future]. In some uses it indicates that there is a confrontation. In this case Is' translation, though, makes much more sense.

I agree with you, Art. Is' translation makes more sense, personal commitment is the idea.

Toi d'acuerdu contigo, Art.

The sorrow is that it appears that will not serve for nothing, anyway, I send a photo of my wife, my nephew and my own ....

It's the bad thing of initiatives like the Pita or the campaign of doilacara, which are pretty interesting with much wit and imaginative but people that rules in this country would not been warned for it.

The Doilacara (Here-I-am-in-support-of-language-rights-in-Asturias campaign) has been a huge hit, like both Mufosu and Llames have pointed out.

So it’s time for us Asturian-Americans to take mugshots. I did so about a month ago. Now the site is approaching 5,000 submissions, including Jose Angel Hevia (the bagpiper from La Villa/Villaviciosa; see his youtube clip on the site).

It’s easy-peasy. Here’s what you do:

>Go to www.doilacara.net

>Under ‘Descarques’ (downloads), click on either ‘Cartel n’asturianu’ (poster in >Asturian) and/or ‘Cartel en gallego-asturianu’ (poster in Galician-Asturian).

>Print it out on regular-sized paper and take your mugshot. Remember to smile. This is a non-partisan campaign about language rights.

>Send your pics to doilacara AT gmail DOT com, and put the location for the pic in the subject line (i.e., Spelter, WV, Washington DC, Rockport, MA, Pasadena, MD, Tampa, FL…)

[Babies and toddlers must be accompanied by an adult in order to be published.]

Then you can click on the flickr site to see when your snapshots go live...
