Hello to all,

I don't speak English very well and I helped myself by using a machine
translator for these words. [Art also helped.]

I send you the data (below) of my family - all in Spain.

It might be interesting to somebody who is looking for their roots in Spain.

My great-grandfather (Gabriel Quiñones) had a brother who left for America but I don't know his name at the moment.

I would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about him.

I did a search of the 1930 census for the name Quinones. There was over 10,000 people, but only 5 men with that name were born in Spain: Jerome Quinones from Manhattan, NY; George Quinones from Manhattan, NY; Roy Quinones from Niagara Falls, NY; Manuel Quinones from White Plains, NY; and Lawrence Quinones from Freland, Luzerne, PA.

It is obvious most of these men changed their their first names to an English version. I am not sure what their Spanish names might have been.

If any of these names look familiar let me know. I will further research that person. Cool

Cool

I called my parents, who live in Niagara Falls, and asked if they knew a Roy Quiñones who lived there in 1930. My father remembers a Quiñones family (who he thinks had moved there from West Virginia), but couldn't recall the first name of the father. In any event, he remembers that they had four children, two boys and two girls. One of the girls was named Ida and the other Luisa. Luisa died and Ida then took the name Luisa. She is still living, and is the Aunt of Mary Lou Hevia. Luisa (formerly Ida) married Joe Hahn, who was a fireman in Niagara Falls.

My dad will check the Niagara Falls phone book and dredge his memory for more information.

Cool

Jose,

I checked Ellis Island immigration records [www.ellisisland.org]
and found 26 people from Spain with the surname Quinones. If you can tell me more about your great grandfather's brother, perhaps I can find him in the records. Do you know his approximate date of birth, when he may have traveled to the United States, or the name of his wife or children?

I enjoy genealogical research. Please email me if you need help searching American records. I do not speak Spanish, so please excuse any errors in my translations. Cool
