This may be a deal on going by ship.
Transatlantic 11 Night Cruise: Only $389 pp
An 11-night cruise from Florida on the Norwegian Jewel is only $389 per person for an interior cabin. That's less than $36 per person, per night!

The Jewel departs Miami on April 17. It sails Transatlantic before stopping in Portugal and Spain. The final stop is Dover, England (near London).

Visit www.Cruise.com's Web site for complete itinerary details and upgraded cabin options.

Note: inventory is limited at these prices.

This may be a deal on going by ship. It stops in Vigo, Galicia, so it's not too far off course. I wonder if they;d mind if you left the trip early?

http://www.cruise.com/cs/forms/cruisere ... Only=false

--------------------------------------------------

I don't know if any of the freighters might be of interest, but here's the link to the port of Gijón (El Musel) where you can ask. The container carriers usually come via Rotterdam, so you can always make the trip in two stages (NYC-Rotterdam-Gijon), or wait for a direct connection.
There's an interesting section in the above web site "Buques en el puerto", where you can see all the vessels that have already docked and those that are coming in, showing their port of origin, destination, shipping agents, etc.
