El prósimu vienres 8 de mayu ye’l Día de les Lletres Asturianes. Esti añu,
la Xunta Moza entama en collaboración colos conseyos de mocedá, unes
xornaes abiertes sobre llingües minorizaes y mocedá que de xuru han valir
p’afondar nel debate sobre la defensa de la pluralidá llingüística y de
los derechos de les persones falantes.
Estes xornaes van cuntar cola participación d’especialistes con amplia
esperiencia de trabayu na defensa de les llingües minorizaes n’ámbitos
como la educación, los medios de comunicación y les alministraciones.
Los debates van completase con una propuesta de talleres nos que l’ociu y
la reivindicación van dir de la mano.

Here’s a quick recap in English of Bob’s posting about the Dia de les Lletres, which takes place tomorrow (May 8, 2009) in the Asturian capital, Uvieu/Oviedo:
This year, the Xunta Moza (a language rights youth organization) has invited its counterparts in other countries and regions with minority languages for a series of panel discussions. The organizers hope it will serve to broaden the debate and promote the need for linguistic diversity, as well as the civil rights of speakers of minority languages.
Attendees include people who have been active in the defense of minority languages in the fields of education, media and government. The discussions are meant to be fun, as well as informative. Here are a few highlights of the events:
• Maria Xose Martinez (Xunta Moza): An educational approach to minority languages, with Asier Amondo (AEK), Xose Anton Gonzalez Riaño (Asturian Language Academy), Marta Carrió (Youth Council of the Balearic Islands)
• Language rights demonstration to celebrate the Dia de Les Lletres Asturianes (heads out of the Estacion del Norte in Uvieu/Oviedo on May 8 at 7pm)
• Tool kit for language standardization: legal aspects of language policy, with David Forniés (CIEMEN), Xurde Blanco (AXA, Association of Lawyers for the Asturian Language)
• The media: opportunities and obstacles for language diversity, with Rhodri ap Dyfrig (Wales), Montse Besada (television producer), Beatriz Viado (managing editor of the Asturian weekly, Les Noticies), Prospero Moran (director of Asturnews website), Fernando de la Fuente (director of Asturies.com website)
The two-day event also includes workshops dealing with Asturian-language comics, computer programming for minority languages, mural projects, Asturian-language hip hop and digital photography.
