Post by jose batos »

Gracias.

My name is José Batós Palicio. I live in Oviedo in Spain and am doing a study about the tobacco industry and the Asturians who were involved in that industry and emigrated to Miami.

I'd appreciate any information you might be able to share, as well as any tips on websites that I should turn to.

Beyond that, I offer my services to try to provide information about any aspect of this land.

Thanks.

Hello, Jose,

We're working on preparing an answer. I think it'll take a bit longer.

Are you aware that there was a large tobacco industry in Tampa, Florida, involving Asturians from Cuba?

Tampa Cigar Industry

There is an excellent book called: Tampa Cigar Workers- by Robert P. Ingalls and Louis A. Perez, Jr; (I'm sorry I could not figure out how to underline the title of the book) that tells the history of the Cuban, Spanish and Italian immigrants that created the cigar industry in Tampa.
