Turullu, m, - signal horn, fog horn, etc. made from cattle horns or sea snail shells.
also aturullar, verb, - to make racket
Before the era of pneumatic or electric accoustic signals, it was the horn that warned of dangers and signalled anything worth people's attention, i.e. the mailmen, bakers and milkmen would blow their horn to inform of their presence, so housewives could gather round their carts and mothers could send their kids running to fetch the bread, milk, etc.
Example: "Ya llegó el panaderu de Laviana, porque acabo de oir el turullu." (The baker from Laviana is here, I just heard his horn)
"Guajes, quítaivos delante que me estáis aturullando!" (Get lost you kids, you're driving me crazy with your noise)[/b] |
