Boronu/pantrucu - cornmeal and blood loaf - morcilla de maiz

Post by Terechu »

Boronu, masc. noun - corn meal and blood loaf - morcilla de maiz

Altern. Pantrucu

Boronu/Pantrucu are small loafs, made of corn meal, blood, onions and bacon. They are cut in slices and fried in oil till crisp.

Boronu and Borona/boroña only have the corn meal in common. They are cooked differntly: boroña is baked in the oven and used to be the farmers' bread - you know we could never grow wheat in Asturias - and boronu is fried and is something like a fresh blood sausage (morcilla).

************************

Hey, I actually found a link with some photos of a boronu ! (they call it borono, because they are from the neighbouring province of Cantabria, but it's the same thing)
