Isaac C. “Ike” Suarez, 92, of Bridgeport, passed away Friday morning, July 30, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Spelter on December 20, 1917, a son of the late Roman and Ramona (Alvarez) Suarez.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth V. Lee Suarez, whom he married January 13, 1947.

Also surviving are his son, Timothy Suarez and his wife Karen, Knoxville, TN; his daughter, Kathy Mika and her husband Robert, Mechanicsville, MD; a son-in-law, Dennis Fean, Mechanicsville, MD; seven grandchildren, Jason Fean and his wife Michelle, Lusby, MD; Laura Fean and her fiancé Jon, Charlotte, NC; Heath Suarez and his wife Jen, Portsmouth, VA; Heather Pardue and her husband Wes, Cleveland, TN; Robert Mika and his wife Kim, White Plains, MD; Justin Mika and Andrew Mika, both of Mechanicsville, MD; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Spagnuolo, Gypsy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Fean; and two sisters, Lucy Blanco and Ester Suarez.

Ike was a graduate of Victory High School, and was a Sergeant in the Army serving during World War II. He was a sheet metal worker for Fuel City and Sturm Heating and Air, retiring in 1984. He was one of the oldest living and active members of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 33 with over 53 years of service. He attended Bridgeport Baptist Church.

He enjoyed having a large garden and enjoyed tending his fruit trees, and he was always building or fixing something.

Memorial contributions in Ike’s memory can be made to the Bridgeport Baptist Church, 556 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330 or to the American Heart Association.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 5 – 8 pm on Tuesday, where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, with Reverend Thomas Edgell presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
