Greetings!! / ¡Saludos!

I am searching for Juan Gregorio MELÉNDEZ, born in Asturias about 1761, died in Corozal, Puerto Rico, buried 21 July 1831. Married María Gregoria López and had at least 2 children: Gregorio Meléndez y López born about 1800, and Blas Meléndez y Lopez, born in Corozal, January 1805.

"On June 21, 1831, was buried in the parish church [of Corozal, Puerto Rico], the body of Asturiano Juan Meléndez (from Asturias, Spain), 70 years old, married to Gregoria Lopez." Antonio Rodríquez Fraiz, Historia de Corozal, page 131."

Many thanks! / ¡Muchas gracias!

Your ancestors left Asturias long before the registro civil was instituted. Your best bet would be church records, but it would help if you knew the town or parish of birth and approximate dates of your ancestors. Here's the link to the diocese of Asturias to get you started - http://www.iglesiadeasturias.org/ The church records may be able to help, but be aware that many civil and church records were destroyed during the guerra civil. You are more likely to get a reply if you write in Spanish.
