Since I am a new convert to quilting, am interested to know if there are traditional quilting designs or whether it has been or is now a popular craft in Spain. Thanks.

Wow, what an interesting similarity of words in their sounds: "quilt" and "kilt".

"A quilt" == "tela acochado" o "un edredón".
"A kilt" == "una falda escocesa".

-----------

Hi Evelyn,
Greetings from a fellow-quilter! (We call it "patchwork" here) I took up quilting last year and I'm so taken in by it I almost gave up everything else. I believe I already have a stash to last me a lifetime Wink

As to quilt patterns, there are none, because traditional beds here were and are made up of linen or cotton sheets, wool blankets and a bedspread or coverlet. We have developed wonderful embroidery and lace-making skills to trim the top sheets and pillow cases with, but very few people still know how to do it.

Maybe, instead of the All-American "Sunbonnet Sue" and "Overall Sam" you can use appliqués of children dressed in the traditional Asturian costumes and we could call them "Pachu Montera" and "Covi Mandil" (Felt-cap Pachu and Apron-Covi) Laughing
You can see some country costumes in these old postcards:

Hola Evelyn,

Saludos
Terechu
