Su nombre de soltera es Celia López Camporro. Nieta de asturiano (por parte de madre), emigrado desde el Concejo de Langreo (parroquia de San Martín de Riaño), hacia Argentina en la primera década del siglo XX. Ella nació en San Juan (Argentina), estudió Historia en la Universidad Nacional de San Juan (Argentina) y en la Universidad de Sevilla (España) hizo su doctorado en Historia de América. La vida y sus inquietudes profesionales le llevaron a la Universidad de Nuevo México (New Mexico, U.S.A.), de la que es Profesora Emérita. Cosas de la vida, esta Universidad tiene su sede en Albuquerque, ciudad fundada por un Asturiano, del Concejo de Candamo, Francisco Cuervo y Valdés, cuya vida también ha investigado. Ha publicado tres libros y numerosos artículos académicos. Su primer libro se titula Con la cruz y con el dinero: los jesuitas del San Juan colonial (San Juan, Argentina: 2001). Fue editora de la antología Mujeres rescatadas del olvido (San Juan, Argentina: 2001) y autora del prólogo al libro Mujeres, música y memoria en San Juan de la autora Patricia Blanco (San Juan, Argentina: 2008). Su último libro (en inglés) es Épicas de imperio y frontera: Alonso de Ercilla y Gaspar de Villagrá como cronistas coloniales españoles (Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, U.S.A., 2016).

Her name before marriage is Celia López Camporro. Granddaughter of an Asturian man (on her mother side), who emigrated from the Langreo Council (parish of San Martín de Riaño), to Argentina in the first decade of the 20st century. She was born in Argentina, studied at the National University of San Juan (Argentina) and she did her Ph.D. in Latin American History at the University of Seville (Spain). Life and her professional interests led her to the University of New Mexico (U.S.A.), where she is Professor Emerita. That is life, this University is based in Albuquerque, a city founded by Asturian born Francisco Cuervo y Valdés, from the Council of Candamo, whose life she has also researched. She has published three books and numerous academic articles. Her first book (in Spanish) is titled With the Cross and the Money: the Jesuits of Colonial San Juan (San Juan, Argentina: 2001). She was editor of the anthology (in Spanish) Women Rescued from Oblivion (San Juan, Argentina: 2001) and author of the preface to the book (in Spanish) Women, Music, and Memory in San Juan by Patricia Blanco (San Juan, Argentina: 2008). Her last book is Epics of Empire and Frontier: Alonso de Ercilla and Gaspar de Villagrá as Spanish Colonial Chroniclers (Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, U.S.A., 2016).
