When I come back from a trip to Asturias, I bring back cheese. It's a great souvenir because it lets me remember the flavors of my favorite place.

The one I've been eating recently is "Quesu Cabra de Vidiago" (Vidiago Goat cheese). This is a product of the Queseria Santa Rosa, in Puertas de Vidiago, Llanes.

Americans might assume that a goat cheese would be strong flavored or strong smelling. Not this one.

Vidiago is a mild, slightly creamy flavored cheese that comes in a small round disc. It appears to be coated with a very thin layer of white wax, I think. It's texture is a little dry on the tongue and it's consistency is relatively hard, so it must be aged for a much longer time than the goat cheeses we're used to here. It slices pretty easily.

I'd recommend it!

No éste.
