Yes, "water become bone" is ice. It's one of the surviving Exeter riddles, originally written in Old English. The original text is stored at Exeter castle (where else?). I've long loved the inherent poetry in the phrase "water become bone."
The Asturian conundrums reminded me of the Exeter riddles because of the possibility of double entendre. Some of the Exeter riddles are overtly sexual in nature and others lend themselves to more than one interpretation. |

Esto no hay quien los adivine! Arrgghhh! No ye lógico.

Terechu
-----------------------------------------------------
I believe Piloña is more famous for its hazelnuts, but I'm inclined to think it's a chestnut, because it says "Round it is and pregnant it is"
Marta, these week-long riddles give you a chance to think way too much, so I came to the conclusion that it was more important to have a fat pig rather than a fat donkey/horse, that's all .
Hugs

A ver si adivináis esta / let's see if you guess this one:
CocÃa nun se come y cruda nun se encuentra.
You can't eat it cooked and you can't find it raw.

Hola:
"cocer") y no se come .
------------------------------------------------
Hi,
Congratulations! It was a hazelnut, "ablana" .
Walnuts and chestnuts are not so roundish as hazelnuts......
Yes, Terechu, it is true that these riddles are too long. Let me see if I can resolve yours.......
The paper .....may be?. Paper is in a sense something "cooked" (chemically) and it is not edible. On the other hand, we can not find it "uncooked" .... before the "chemical cooking" it is just wood ........
The answer can not be so twisty, can it?
But.....what is misleading me is the gender, feminine.... |

------------------------------------------------
Good thinking, Marta, that's the right way, but the gender is female, and it's not paper.
What about you others?!

Hola,
Marta
------
Hi,
after going round and round, I still believe that the answer is "paper" because in asturiano we may say "una fueya de papel"....how are things? |

----------------------------------------------------
It's not a sheet of paper. I'll give you a clue: it's the result of a combustion process.
Cheers

Well, this is probably unfair to Marta, who has done all the hard work, but it sounds like the answer is "ashes".
--------

Art and Marta, it is ashes. So, since Marta did half the work, you can split the price
--------------------------------
Cheers
