The frog and the toad

Hello:

This is a popular folk poem that my mother used to say me when I went to Candas with my friends.

Tando la rana sentada n’un sucu
Vieno el sapu, dioi un pucu
Diz la rana: “¿pa’ u vas?”
Diz el sapu: “Voy pa’ Candás”
Diz la rana: “Traime un mandil”
Diz el sapu: “¿De qué color?
Diz la rana: “De verde amor”
Diz el sapu: “Nun tengu dineru”
Diz la rana: “Téngolo yo”
Diz el sapu: “Trai pa’quí”
Diz la rana: “¡Mierda pa’ ti!”

The last stanza is not polite but it is very popular.
It is not a Becquer poem, but I like it.

A tentative translation may be:

Being the frog sitted on a mound,
The toad came and gave it a kiss
The frog says: where are you going?
The toad says: I am going to Candas
The frog says: bring me an apron
The toad syas: what color?
The frog says: green, darling
The toad says: I have no money
The frog says: I have it
The toad says: Give it to me
The frog says: Go to hell!

In English is not the same...
...at least in my English  :P

Do you think it was always about Candás, or could the place change as needed?

Is it meant for children? Was it sung or spoken?

¿Crees que siempre habla de Candás, o puede el lugar cambiar según sea necesario?

Estaba ofrecido para los niños? Era cantado o hablado?

Hello Art:
The town is Candás, it rhymes with "au´vas" (¿dónde vas?). This is the only version I have heard.
I do not believe it is especially for children :? , but I am sure it like them, particularly the last verse  .

It is not a song :( . I think it is a vulgar, small "romance".

Hola Art,

Ah, so it wasn't sung. When would something like this romance have been recited?

Ah, entonces no se lo cantó. ¿Cuando (en cuales circunstancias) se recitó un romance así?
