Asturian Stone Ovens.

Post by Manuell Alvarez »

Hola Amigos,

I am interested in learning about these cooking structures and their construction after seeing a photograph of one on the internet identified as an ancient Asturian oven. Further, I realized that the curved structure in the photograph of my grandparents is an oven. I had originally believed that it was a barn type building.

They must have vaulted ceilings and be walkins since the structures look so large. Do they date from ancient times?

I placed my grandsparents picture in this posting for everyones' reference.

Manny

My grandfather was a stone mason along with being a farmer, and he probably built the structure in the background. I am unable find the original article and photograph on the internet that I had mentioned; however, there is a photograph of a family posing in front of their large oven in Badajoz on page 105, in my paperback copy of James A. Mitchener's book, Iberia.
