Post by chusolis »

La Escuela de Música Tradicional Llangréu [The School of Traditional Music of Llangréu] launches its program of studies for the year 2007/2008 with a program full of new things.

The most notable is the course of studies on the Xipla m[tabor pipe -- see next message], with which it is hoped we can recover this instrument which has almost disappeared from our region. After searching in Asturias for people would could teach this course, we found Luis Mondelo in Leon. Mondelo is a teacher of the xipla in the schools of Leon and Bembibre.

Other new things include courses on the zanfona and bandurria and singing taught by Héctor Braga; singers and pandereteres by Laura Ruiz; the Folk Ensemble Folk by Alberto Ablanedo, this last one aimed at new groups involved in folk music.

In addition, and continuing what we've been doing in recent years, we'll also be holding weekend workshops.

Thanks, Chus!

The xipla in English is a tabor pipe, a three hole flute or whistle that you can play with one hand. That allows you to use the other hand to play a drum.

Chus told me recently that they'd be happy to have members of the Banda de Gaites USA attend their workshops.

The school's website is well worth a visit!

¡Gracias, Chus!
